A Chatterbox

Daily Prompt: Mind Reader
Who is the last person you saw before reading this prompt? Whether it’s a family member, a coworker, or a total stranger, write what that person is thinking right now.

My two grandsons and their mother on Galveston Beach. Sn is sitting and IB is bending.

The last person I saw was my grandson IB, who was leaving for school. I had gone down in search of breakfast. IB was pushing his feet into sneakers. I called to him, “Allah Hafiz.”

He didn’t reply. His mother asked him why wasn’t he replying.

“Because I am trying to wear my shoes.”

“You reply with your mouth. Your feet have nothing to do with replying.”

While trudging to the door he called back, “Allah Hafiz.”

These are Urdu words and means, “God keep you safe.”

IB at this moment must be immersed in his lessons, or maybe chattering. He talks nineteen to a dozen through out the day. He talks nonstop through meal times too.

I am sure he is storing up today’s lessons, and I am one of his favorite recipient, on whom he tries out his new knowledge.
