Which Books I Like

Daily Prompt: Binding Judgment
Does it ever make sense to judge a book by its cover — literally or metaphorically? Tell us about a time you did, and whether that was a good decision or not.

I never choose a book by it’s cover only. I look at the review, or it’s a best seller, or someone recommended it. Though some one else likening may not be the same as mine. It does cause disappointment.

When choosing I look at the fly leaf to gauge what is the story. After that, I quickly glance through various pages. If I find it interesting, I take it.

I have read all the great classics, back when I was teenager. Now I go for light fiction. I can’t take the ups and downs in serious books. I avoid murder stories, thrillers and biographies.

My first consideration is large print. I am disappointed, when the book I want to read, is in small print.

Once I start reading, I can’t tear myself away from it. I race through it, to find what happened next.

The next keeps me glued to the book. My eyes complain of the strain, I am putting them through. My neck gets tired, my back bone aches, my hands and feet go numb, and my eyes get blurred. I need to go to the toilet, but I keep on hanging there, as to what happened next.I keep on ignoring, but don’t stop reading.

It’s dreadful I know. Books should be read slowly. One should savor, and enjoy the writing.

The end result is, though I read quite a number of books, I forget the contents. I read a book so rapidly, racing to the end, that I forget what was written.

Reading a book transport me into the story. If it’s a sad one, it literally hammers my heart to pieces. Tears fall, and my face hangs with sadness, etched on it.

If it’s filled with humor, I am smiling and laughing. Sometimes the characters are so dumb, I feel like kicking them…… Ouch! Their decisions make me so annoyed with them.

There is another bad habit, I sneak to the end to see that all is well, with the hero and heroine. My heart can’t bear the suspense. I wish I could change myself.

  1. I like a nice cover on a book but I cannot remember if I ever chose a book for its cover. I agree with you that a book should be read slowly. There is something wonderful when you find the pace of a book and it just seems to read itself. Hours pass. A delight.

      1. It’s true. But when I see them in your post it just makes me miss the book jackets and even the dust gives it character. But you are right, when I’m packing for travel I’m thankful for the ebooks ;-D
