Punishment

My car accident in the first week of June — I deemed it as punishment from God. My new, grand, beautiful car got salvaged. For the next two weeks I was distraught. Every time the scene played before my mind, my hand would automatically cover my eyes, even when I was on the prayer mat saying my daily prayers.

Why I deemed it as punishment? I won’t go into details, but the thoughts I had in those days preceding the accident weren’t good ones about someone. God let me know I can’t be a judge, and I do seek God’s forgiveness. I hope He forgives me, and won’t let harm near me, my family, and all those who fear Him about retribution.

Early in the morning after Fajr prayer I read this Ayat in the Quran, Surah Al Anbiyaa (The Prophets)

35. Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.

God test us in our daily lives, and I hope He never finds me wanting again.

  1. Sheen, I will keep you in my prayers. My God does not punish but I did not always know that. It appears I am learning about the difference of our religions (which is good), and I must thank you for that. I pray you find comfort and love in the difficult situations which you are dealing with. When something like this happens to me like others suggest, I have to thank God for protecting me, because in truth things could have been so much worse – no? You are a good woman, you are a good mother and grandmother. I hope and pray you knees and your heart heal, soon. ♥ Blessings to you. I truly enjoy reading your posts. Laurie

    1. Thank you Laurie for your writing. It comforts me to know and read your kind words. God is Kind, and He is Merciful. He watches over us and admonishes us when we forget.
He spared me grievous injury. Thank God I didn’t cause any harm to others. In the words of the police man who came to write a report, he said that there was nothing to write since the person who suffered was myself and my car.

    2. Laurie you are such a good person yourself. Thank you. I wanted to explain about what I wrote earlier. God only gives guidance to those who seek it. Who don’t want it — He doesn’t.
I want to be pure in my thoughts too, because in the end we all are going to face our Maker. I shouldn’t judge someone. I should leave the judgement to God.

  2. Change your perspective of what happens. Don’t take it as a punishment. Punishment comes in the hereafter. Take it as a reminder from God. Indeed it is a blessing – as it has helped you to reflect over your deeds and acts. Saying it’s a punishment portrays God as revengeful. HE is not. HE is loving. HE reminds when we stray from the good path because HE loves us. Each affliction cleanses our sins and brings us rewards if we face it with patience and remembrance of God.

    1. Thank you for your perspective. It’s enlightening.
I took it as punishment cause my car got wrecked. What I was thinking was wrong. Allah looks after those who turn to Him in repentance. My accident was a reminder to me.
I am grateful to Allah that He spared me from harm, and no one else got harmed by me.
      Allah sent me a reprieve.
Allah is truly Great and Merciful, and I am grateful.
