The Hours I Keep

I would prefer to sleep, but the fear of going to hell chase me into wakefulness. Why the fear? If I don’t say my prayers then that’s where I am going to land — God forbid!

I was joking. There is the morning prayer, and Azkars to be said, and I willingly, and gladly get up early in the morning depending upon prayer timings which differ from summer to winter.

Once done with prayers I would snuggle down in bed for further snoozing. That used to be my routine in my husband’s lifetime. Then I had to re-awake at  seven thirty, or earlier, depending at what time he wished for bed tea, and later breakfast.

Now once I get up for morning prayer, I remain awake, unless I get late to bed, and want further sleep —- then sleep it is.

Nowadays we are in the midst of fasting, so I have to get up at 3.45 am. I hurriedly prepare my son’s, grandson’s, and mine breakfast, and then wake them up to have it. I get to bed by seven again after prayer, and Azkars are done. I wake up again at eight thirty to see that my grandson H goes for his summer classes.

My brain is fuzzy nowadays being sleep deprived.

Prayer For The Day

ربنا اتنا من لدنك رحمة وهي لنا من امرنا رشدا

Translation

” Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way.” Amen.

Quran, Chapter18 Surah Al Kahf, Verse (Ayat) 10

Al Kahf means Companions of the Cave.

Seven youths went to sleep in a cave in the reign of Emperor Decius. (Who reigned from 249-251 A.C.; and who was a violent persecutor of Christians) They awoke in the reign of Theodosius (the second) who reigned from 408-450 A.C.

The youths hid in the cave, but they trusted in Allah and made over their whole case to Him in prayer. Then they fell asleep and knew nothing of what was happening in the world outside.
(Tafseer from The Quran.Text Translation and Commentary by Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

One of my favorite prayer in my daily Azkars(اذكار) whenever I am feeling worried about something I say it and leave the rest to God.
