Have a fun filled Halloween.

My aunt Zarin would talk of ghosts coming every Thursday evening to see their homes, and loved ones. It wasn’t, and it isn’t true. It was just stories she made up to keep us in one place. When I was young thinking of dead people would give me the creeps. Anytime when the thought of death would come into my mind, I would give it a shove to the back. As a child I knew death had taken away my mother, and as a teenager I lost my father. As if by not thinking of it I was trying to keep my loved ones safe.

I keep away from watching scary, or ghoulish movies. Sitting alone, I was switching channels in the hope of seeing something worthwhile. There was one which looked interesting. I looked at the guide. Once I determined it was going to be a horror one, I hurriedly switched to another channel. I was alone. I didn’t want to scare myself. Although there was a moment when I was about to give in to the urge to see it.

Trick or Trick

It’s Halloween, and you just ran out of candy. If the neighborhood kids (or anyone else, really) were to truly scare you, what trick would they have to subject you to?

A Witch for a Day

Masks Off

We’re less than a week away from Halloween! If you had to design a costume that channeled your true, innermost self, what would that costume look like? Would you dare to wear it?

If I had to wear a costume for Halloween, I would go dressed as a witch. It’s easy to have — a black cloak, a hat, and a broom.

The only difference would be attaching a small machine to the broom, so that I could go up in the air, at the start of a button.

I can imagine ringing my neighbor’s house. They would be expecting children for trick, or treat, certainly not a grown up, make believe witch. When they would open the door, I would shoot up. Another ring, and then another. They would be spooked, and give up opening their door on that night to anyone else.

This is all fantasy. I know I will never do something like that, even for fun’s sake.

I had an actual witch for a grandma. No wait, that is not correct —- she was my grandmother’s sister.

How she knew magic? I wish I had known I would be writing someday, and had thought of asking her when she was alive. She died decades ago, so that’s not possible.
