The Last Friday

Son phoned me after finishing his case to tell me to get IB (grandson) ready for going to the mosque for Friday Zuhr Prayers. Today is Friday, and IB is on the last leg of his time with us. We only have one other day left. His older brothers hardly goes to the mosque, except for Eid days, so maybe this is the last Friday he goes to the mosque.

.

I wish his mother let him come to us for a longer period next year. That will be a dream come true.

We will be missing him like crazy once he goes back to Houston. Our home will feel empty without his dear presence. Who is going to raid the freezer for ice cream, ask me to make waffles first thing in the mornings, and tempt me too into eating?

We thought we had ample time on our hands

But he left the world, and went on his travels alone

Where he didn’t need a passport on demand

I can’t think of traveling on my own anywhere

Flattery

As long as one doesn’t take it really to be true, one can hear it in one ear, and let it go through the other. It does feel nice to hear from someone extolling you to no end, but in the end it’s deceiving your own self. A time comes when you start believing what the flatterer tells you, and you began having a false image of yourself.  

It’s better to have an enemy, where you know where you stand, than having a friend who lets you believe you are too wonderful for words, and the reality is otherwise.
