You Think you Know Someone

Silver Screen: Take a quote from your favorite movie — there’s the title of your post. Now, write!

You think you know someone

Turns out you were mistaken

Sadness you feel, with heart in pieces

Wishing you could go back to livin’

To the safety of yesteryears

No respite from broken dreams, failures

Can’t Say No

(Your Thing) for Dummies
Take a complicated subject you know more about than most people, and explain it to a friend who knows nothing about it at all.

There is nothing complicated about knitting, and reading the instructions from a magazine for any article.

One neighbor sought me to teach her knitting, and reading the instructions. I agreed, all in good faith. She knew English, so I thought it won’t be a problem for her to continue on her own, once she learnt the basics.

The first day she arrived was early in the morning. I had yet to finish feeding, and dressing my two toddlers. Never mind, she had come minus any needles, and wool. In a few seconds she would muddle up the simple instructions.

I continued with the patience of a saint (which I didn’t know I had in me), to help her learn. Over the next two weeks she learnt the basic know-how. I parted with my two sets of needles, and quite a few knitting magazines to finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Another lady of my acquaintance learnt that the leggings, cardigans, mittens, and caps of my kids were made by me. One day she announced to me she wanted to learn on my knitting machine. I couldn’t say no to her face.

I reluctantly set up the machine for her. Minutes later she had broken five needles, and was all set to break a few more. Meanwhile I was watching with a cringing heart. I found my courage to ask her to stop, when the carriage barely missed the floor.

After a day, or so she asked if I had bought the needles. Fortunately for me (I think you can understand), they were unavailable in the local market. The machine was from UK. My machine survived the onslaught.

To the Rescue

The time I take to get things for my friend/relative can be better utilized in rescuing that person. That’s the obvious thing to do. Isn’t it?

Yesterday at meal times, IB (grandson), and I, we were the two people left at the dinning table, still eating. IB looked at me, and said, “will you answer questions?”

“What’s the color of the sky?”

“What’s the color of the walls?”

“What was the first question I asked?”

“About the color of sky.”

“No, that wasn’t the first one.”

What are your thoughts on aging? How will you stay young at heart as you get old?

Young at heart I will remain
I believe I will never grow old
Hope holds me together forever

Have Faith In God

Daily Prompt: Walking on the Moon
What giant step did you take where you hoped your leg wouldn’t break? Was it worth it, were you successful in walking on the moon, or did your leg break?
Show RISK.

When you take a risk, with faith in God
He will look after you, that’s what you thought
It happens, miracles abound
Have faith in God, that’s what you are taught

Let’s take a leap and hope for rewards
Look for happiness, you have sought
Things unknown are there, that’s for sure
Go ahead with all you thought

Mirror on the Wall

Daily prompt: Mirror, Mirror
Look in the mirror. Does the person you see match the person you feel like on the inside? How much stock do you put in appearances?

She looked into the hallway mirror. It was perfect the way she looked. Her face was slightly flushed and a smile hovered on her lips. She had used red lipstick, her favorite color. Her hair looked just the way she wanted. She looked young and vibrant and felt the same way. Her black dress hugged her figure and showed the right curves.

Satisfied, she looked into the mirror one last time. She picked her purse and car keys, set the alarm and opened the door to the garage.

Reaching her friend’s house she gave a cursory glance to the other guests. She made heads turn as she crossed the room to her friend’s side. Secretly pleased at the reaction she thought, “Whoa, I must be looking stunning!”

Tania remarked to Fauzia, “I wonder why old Mrs. T dresses like she still is twenty years old?”

Sixteen Birthday

Daily Prompt: Sweet Sixteen
Write a post inspired by your sixteenth birthday.

Abid’s mother looked at the front door for the umpteenth time. He was still not home.
“Why isn’t he home?” She muttered to herself.

Abid knew his mother had made preparations for his sixteenth birthday. His three friends had been invited. She had bought an iPhone for him as a present. Nadia, his little sister who was nine had bought a wrist watch. Now both were impatiently waiting for him to be home.

An hour before Abid had taken his dog Red to the near by park for his daily run.

Suddenly there was a sound of Red barking outside. Abid’s mother hurried to open the door. Red gave another bark and turned as to tell her to follow him. She and Nadia followed him and on the crossroad they saw someone lying.

A car had hit Abid and he was lying crumpled on one side.

With sinking hearts mother and daughter approached Abid’s still form. There was no pulse and he was no more.

A Simple Style

Daily Prompt: Style Icon
Describe your personal style, however you’d like to interpret that — your clothing style, your communication style, your hairstyle, your eating style, anything.

My personal style is simple. I like elegant clothes which should look good on me or vice versa, I should look good in them.
I always buy clothes in colors I like. That means I end up in clothes all looking basically the same color. Nowadays they are mostly green in varying shades, blue and mauve.
There is one color which spells disaster for me. This is the color brown. I am drawn to it, like a moth to a light, specially when winter comes along. There I am standing, visualizing myself dressed in color brown, but the reality is otherwise.
Somehow to my eyes I look and feel terrible. I swear off it. I give away the new clothes, telling myself I will never buy this color again.
I forget, I do have a short memory and there I am doing it all over again when winter comes.

Above is my actual image.
I have short hair. It’s easier to maintain and in summers I do like it that way. When the temperature rises I feel miserable, so I feel light and airy with short hair.
I am a person who gets chilled and cold easily too, so in winters I let my hair grow to feel warmth around my neck.

I like simple foods, preferably home cooked meals without spices in it. I like a balanced diet of meat and vegetables. I love to have salads and yogurt. I eat smaller portions of cooked food and have more in the form of fruit.
I watch myself not to eat more but I fail miserably when I see ice cream in front of me or chocolates and desserts. I drool forgetting my age.

Communication Skills?
They are practically zero. I am shy and an introvert. If someone approaches me, well and good, I will talk. Otherwise I prefer to remain silent, watching others talk to each other.
