Tentative

There is nothing tentative about doing my housework– there is no one to do it, and I have to do it whether I like it, or not. Sometimes the wholly repetitive work cooking, cleaning, or ironing can be highly boring except when I’m trying out a new recipe, or baking. That’s more to my liking.

I’m tired with washing the dishes as the dishwasher doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked for months, but I wasn’t complaining This reminds me to send a text message to Son to visit the management offices before he comes back home. It took repeated visits by Son to them for replacing the microwave, and it was done after fifteen days. That was another ordeal for me — living without it. I never realized how much relief it gave me from tedious work, and made my life a bit easy to live. Thank God.

Pungent

Sunrise in Houston

Son had arrived home after his work hours were over. On the way back, he brought with him milk, eggs, orange juice, and all the other miscellaneous food items necessary to sustain us. He parked his car in front of the apartment to remove the groceries.

To felicitate in bringing the things inside, he left the front door open. I couldn’t breath. My nose went on overdrive. If smell could kill, it could have happened immediately from the horrible smell wafting inside through the open doorway. It didn’t happen, but our whole space smelt like poop.

I rushed to close the door, and switched on all the exhausts to clear the air inside. My normal routine in the morning is to open a window, or two, and the sliding doors to the balcony. I do it daily to remove stale air from inside the apartment and bring in fresh air.

The pungent smell was due to the management spreading manure outside. Son told me it would take a week for the smell to dissipitate.

I had to remember no more opening doors, or windows for a whole week.

Due to non availability of Internet for the next three days, I won’t be writing.

Relish

IB zipping through the air

What I relish most is having my grandsons Sn, and IB visiting us on a weekend. Yesterday Sn had gone in the early hours to school for debates. IB asked his father to take him to the park for Zipline. Since his father had some office work to do, it was decided that we will go after lunch, and Zuhr prayers.

IB had been telling me about zipping, but seeing it first hand was much better. It was a favorite with the children who had come with their mothers, fathers, or friends. There was a continuous line for taking turns at it. IB is a sweet person. He tired himself with helping other children, running to hold the line for them, or helping them to dismount.

Seeing another lady, and a dad with a child in his arms enjoying the zipping, I tried it too. I had dire warnings from my son that I might break my bones, and the operation will cost me fifty thousand dollars. I discarded his predictions, but I had a bump at the end line, and managed not to fall off.

Actually the Zipline has been hung closer to the ground, keeping in mind small children. The management of the park didn’t know that parents, or a grandma will have a go at it too.
