My car’s front two tires needed to be changed. It came up during the yearly inspection of car maintenance which is a state requirement. It was decided that I should buy new four tires. Son found out the varying prices. Although places away from us were cheaper, I decided to get new ones from a nearby place. This way if there was any trouble with the new ones, we didn’t have to drive fifty, sixty miles away.

Trouble comes in twos, and …….. I don’t want to complete the sentence. You will soon see why? Coming back from the library I twisted my right foot. For a moment there was blinding pain, then I managed to limp to the other side of the road. For the rest of the four hours ahead I did the laundry (going to the fourth floor on stairs) as the washing machine on our floor was on the blink, and other household chores.

I was aiming to get to bed for earning my hard won rest, when my sister’s phone came. I should have made excuses, and gone to bed, but I didn’t. At the end of our hour long chat there was dreadful pain in my right foot. It was awful. Whatever position I tried to ease my foot, the pain wouldn’t go away. That was the moment I told Son at what had happened earlier. Thank God he was home.

There weren’t any pain killers, as Son rummaged through my stash of medicines first, then his own. He went to the nearby Walgreens to get Advil. Downing two of those weren’t any help. The pain kept getting worse. The thought of going through that pain all night made me decide to see a doctor. Leaning heavily on a cane through the searing pain I reached the ground floor level to get into the car.

Thank God it was just a sprain, not any broken bone. I learnt to walk on crutches. If it weren’t for crutches, I don’t know how I would have managed. The next trouble came when I got splattered with hot oil on my left hand, and chest this morning. I’m fearing what will happen next?

Gingerly I step onto my bed to pull the cord to shut down the fan lights.  I don’t like bright lights, unless it is exceptionally cold inside too. Then perhaps if they are on, it will create an illusion of warmth, otherwise I’m perfectly fine with a table lamp, or the standing light in the corner. Whereas Son comes to my bedroom (mostly he is using my printer), turn on the fan lights, and exiting he forgets to turn them off.

Running to, and fro on various errands, I feel warm, and turn on the fan, only to find the lights are on too.

I can’t call Son to switch them off, as he isn’t home at that moment in time. I have to climb onto my bed. Trying to kneel I feel the pain in my right knee. It hasn’t recovered from my car accident last year. I grimace, and manage to stand on the bed to reach the cord.

Every time I’m switching off the lights, and pain surges in my knee, I wish Son could remember that I don’t like those lights at all.

My left leg is again giving me trouble. The Sciatica pain has started, and the left foot is swollen. I need to see a doctor. I don’t want to go to the first doctor I chose. I had bad experience with her. I have to look up, and search for a new one, but I would prefer that my children did the search for me.

One easy solution was to lie down, and get my foot elevated. I had to get a spare pillow from the upper rack of my closet. To reach it was a problem. I should have brought a chair from the dinning area, or got a ladder from the outside. Feeling it would be too much of a botheration, I didn’t get either of them. I managed it with a cane I had with me. I angled the head of the cane towards the pillow in such a way to slide it down. I was lucky nothing else rained on my head, otherwise there would have been no rest for me.

I lurched to my feet when daughter texted me to remind me about the Solar Eclipse today. I looked outside, and it looked quite dark. Pushing the patio doors open, I looked at the sky. Dark clouds had gathered, and the sun had momentarily hidden its’ smiley face behind them.

I came inside to get my phone to take a photo. I got diverted in getting some other task done, and forgot. Later on when I wanted to, the clouds had gone away.

Scars on my soul

Scars are those wounds

They look apparently healed

But once memory recalls them

They bleed profusely again

Searing pain strikes anew

Fresh as the day it happened

One tries to forget

Pushing at it to go away

But there are moments in life

When the old pain regenerates again
