Reading romance novels, I often come across the paragraph where the hero buries his nose in the heroine’s hair, and loves doing so. Alas! That was not quite the case with us. 😢 . By us I mean my late husband, and I. He would rudely say, “Cover your hair, it tickles my nose, and I can’t sleep.” It would effectively kill any romantic thoughts I would be having towards him.

I was quite young. I disappointedly used to wonder that something must be wrong with the hair I had upon my head. I was dejected. It’s recently I’m able to see his view point. My hair has been falling intermittently. Sometimes they land upon my face, or arm. They tickles the skin annoyingly. No wonder my poor husband felt irritated with my hair.

And another thing I have realized is that whatever the romance writers write is never the truth.

Day Fifty Four (A Journey with Quran)

Surah An Nisa: Ayats 161–170

They took interest money, even though they were forbidden to, and they used up people’s wealth foolishly. We’ve prepared a terrible punishment for those among them who reject (the truth). [161]

However, those (Jews) who are firmly educated and who have (true) faith -they believe in what’s been revealed to you, as do those who pray and give in charity to the poor and who believe in Allah and the Last Day. Soon We will grant them a valuable reward. [162]

We’ve sent revelation to you, (Muhammad), in the same way that We sent revelation to Noah and to the messengers who came after him. We sent revelations to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes (of Israel), as well as to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron and Solomon, and We gave the Psalms to David. [163]

We’ve already told you the story of some of the messengers, but of others We haven’t. Allah even spoke directly to Moses. [164]

The messengers gave good news, as well as warnings, so that people (who lived generations) after (the time) of each messenger would have no plea (of ignorance) against Allah, for Allah is powerful and wise. [165]

Allah testifies that what He sent down to you was sent from His Own knowledge, and the angels testify as well, though Allah is enough of a witness Himself! [166]

Those who cover (the light of faith within their hearts) and keep others away from the path of Allah have strayed far away in error. (167)

Allah won’t forgive those who cover over (their ability to have faith in Him) and who do wrong, neither will He guide them towards any pathway, [168]

Except the way of Hell, and there they shall remain forever, and that’s easy for Allah. [169]

All you people! The Messenger has come to you in all truth from Allah, so believe! It’s in your best interest to do so. However, if you reject (the truth, know that) everything in the heavens and on the earth belongs to Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom. [170]

Day Thirty first (A Journey with Quran)

Surah Al Imran. Ayats 131 – 140

131. Fear the Fire, which is repaired for those who reject Faith:

132. And obey Allah and the Messenger. that ye may obtain mercy.

133. Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden whose width is that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous,-

134. Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men;- for Allah loves those who do good;-

135. And those who, having done something to be ashamed of, or wronged their own souls, earnestly bring Allah to mind, and ask for forgiveness for their sins,- and who can forgive sins except Allah.- and are never obstinate in persisting knowingly in (the wrong) they have done.

136. For such the reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath,- an eternal dwelling: How excellent a recompense for those who work (and strive)!

137. Many were the Ways of Life that have passed away before you: travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who rejected Truth.

138. Here is a plain statement to men, a guidance and instruction to those who fear Allah.

139. So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: For ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith.

140. If a wound hath touched you, be sure a similar wound hath touched the others. Such days (of varying fortunes) We give to men and men by turns: that Allah may know those that believe, and that He may take to Himself from your ranks Martyr-witnesses (to Truth). And Allah loveth not those that do wrong.

Translation: Abdullah Yusuf

Taken from tafsir (explanation) for Ayat 134 is the excerpt below

The existence of interest in a society generates two kinds of moral disease. It breeds greed and avarice, meanness and selfishness among those who receive interest. At the same time, those who have to pay interest develop strong feelings of hatred, resentment, spite and jealousy. God intimates to the believers that the attributes bred by the spread of interest are the exact opposite of those which develop as a result of spending in the way of God, and that it is through the latter rather than the former that man can achieve God’s forgiveness and Paradise.

Simmer

Note: I know the meaning of simmer, but I didn’t want to write about food.

I galanced into Son’s room. He wasn’t there. My left shoulder had me simmering in pain since I got up in the morning. The pain radiated towards the left side of my neck. It had probably dislocated again. I dread picking up the milk, and orange juice cartons. They are too heavy for me, and prudence demands I shouldn’t pick them to put them in the fridge,  but Son tends to leave them on the kitchen counter.

I have noticed that people who never had a problem like mine tend to disbelieve me. I gather that from their expressions. Naturally I can’t go around carrying a disclaimer that whatever I’m saying is nothing but the truth, and I’m having a dreadful pain. Ironically these same people can cause a huge ruckus if something similar, or not happens to them.

I looked into Son’s room, and seeing he wasn’t there, I occupied his chair. I raised myself from the seat on my arms. The reason I needed his chair was (the chair with my desk is without arms), to elevate my shoulders in an an attempt to bring my left arm into its’ socket. The pain went numb, and I felt blessed relief.

Lies

Sweet Little Lies
by Ben Huberman
As kids, we’re told, time and again, that lying is wrong. Do you believe that’s always true? In your book, are there any exceptions?

IMG_4305.PNG

Telling a lie has one big disadvantage. You forget what you have already said, and say something else. The end result is losing respect, and trust in the eyes of others.

A dreadful fate to be sure.

For myself I prefer the truth to be said to my face, rather than finding out later it was a lie. A white lie can be condoned, but a lie to harm someone can never be forgiven.

Changes

Whenever I visit my son and his family, I feel I am in Seventh Heaven. The days pass so quickly. There are lots of changes in my grand sons. They are growing up. The elder two, specially the older one is meta morphing into a prickly creature. Both of them are sporting bushy unkept hairdos. To tell you the truth, in my heart I was pretty much aghast, but when their friends visited they looked the same with their hair. I breathed a sigh of relief that my grandsons are not the odd ones out.

The youngest one, IB is still his sweet, sunny self. He loves to perform his magic tricks. Yesterday he put a coin in my hand. Before closing my hand over the coin, he as quickly removed it, and touched my ear. He showed it to me, rather triumphantly, and told me, “See, I got it out of your ear.” I tried to look suitably impressed.
