Road to Cape Cod

Buzzard Bay. In the distance you can see the bridge where we cross over to Cape Cod.

The bridge over the river.

Son, and I were invited to Thanksgiving by one of the surgeons he works with. Learning that I live with my son, he invited me as well. I wasn’t very keen, but my son persuaded me to go along with him. It was my first visit to Cape Cod.

Our hosts didn’t know that as Muslims we are prohibited to eat pork. Their every dish contained pieces of bacon. The turkey wasn’t halal, so we couldn’t have that either. I buttered a piece of bread, and had it. Later on I had a slice of pecan pie.

Returning home, we foraged our fridge to have something to eat, and then sleep.

Tourist Trap

What’s your dream tourist destination — either a place you’ve been and loved, or a place you’d love to visit? What about it speaks to you?

At the moment my deepest wish is to get back to Peshawar. Only God knows when it’s going to be fulfilled. I hope it’s soon Insha’Allah (if God wills), Ameen.

Knowing myself, I can predict that soon after reaching my dusty, old home town, I will be fed up with load shedding, and other problems.

I have been waiting to visit Turkey, and Malayasia during my husband’s lifetime, but it was not to be. I got raving accolades about Turkey from one acquaintance. From another it was a complete no-no. Both had their own experiences. So I don’t know what to decide.

One thing I know for sure is, I will try to co-ordinate the visit with my daughter. I don’t want to go on my own. For me it will be scary going alone to some place. She has not divulged which place she is likely to visit this year. Last year it was UK. I should remember to ask her on my next phone call.

I did make her promise that I will be included on the Turkey trip. So maybe I make it Insha’Allah.
Wishful thinking, and high hopes indeed!

However dark the surroundings it seems now

Hope shines brightly in my space

It will keep me from dark thoughts, and despair

Finally leading me to eternal peace

Not A Wanderer

Daily Prompt: The Wanderer
Tell about the top five places you’ve always wanted to visit. Go!

What a coincidence! Today I am flying to Boston to meet my daughter, after a gap of almost a year. I am so looking forward to seeing her, and the new baby. Her flight from Paris will be reaching one and a half hour earlier than mine. Hopefully, she will be through custom and immigration, by the time I reach.

My daughter has lined up so many places in and around Boston for me to see. She and her husband are the real wanderers. They love to see new places, and keep on moving, from place to place.

When they are in one place, they are always planning on outings to different nearby locations. I call them nomads. At a whim, they sell everything, or give away their belongings, and move.

I would love to see Malayasia, Japan and Turkey. Someone has to be on my back to make me go anywhere. I am not a wanderer by nature. I have to get motivated by someone to visit new places.
