Daily Prompt: SOS
You’re at the beach, lounging on your towel, when a glistening object at the water’s edge catches your eye. It’s a bottle — yes it contains a message. What does it say?
Show WATER.
Adam put the bottle, he found on the beach, on top of his book rack. His eyes misted as he looked at it. How he used to believe that one day his father would come back home.
Earlier he had gone out on the beach. It was his morning run. As he looked towards the waves coming in, something caught his eye. Moving nearer he saw it was a bottle washed ashore.
He picked it up. Memory came back. Looking at it, he remembered the little boy of six, writing on a piece of paper a few lines to his father, hoping his father will get his message. The last he had seen his father was eleven years ago.
Coming home from school, he would race towards his father’s study. He would open the door, willing it in his heart that he will find father sitting in his usual chair. His father will say, “I was waiting for you, son!”
Disappointment would hit him when he saw the empty room. He would feel like crying and he would dejectedly climb the stairs to his room. One day in utter despair he had written the message.
Hi Dad, I miss you. When are you coming? I am waiting for you, Dad!”
Fiction.
